Maternity/Family Session ~My SIL at 32 Weeks & Our Family~

*Friendly warning: this is a long post with a lot of pictures. Enjoy*

I was really slow processing these.
Sorry y’all.

My mom, little sister and I threw my brother and SIL a baby shower last weekend.
(Those pics will be coming soon.)
My birthday was the day after, so my mom and sis stayed for the whole weekend.

We had a specific request from my aunt (Hi Cyn!) for family pictures as well because we are so rarely all together.
It was also perfect timing for the next session for Angie, so we combined the two.
The teenager took most of the maternity shots.

Clockwise from me, (in red), is my brother Mike (a.k.a. Butthead), my mama, my little sister Jenny (a.k.a. Munchkin), Angie (a.k.a. Oopma) and baby, and my daughter Bea (a.k.a. the teenager).

Would you believe I was having a really good hair day?
It tends to have a mind of it’s own and my birthday was no exception.

Someone “forgot” her shoes and was wearing her Starbursts socks for the shoot.
She’s not her mother’s daughter or anything.

Because we couldn’t possibly let them have too much camera time alone, we all jumped in for more group shots.

Look at that proud mama and her belly.
She’s a strong lady and she’s growing a strong boy in there.

So silly.

After the shoot, my brother helped our mom down the hill.

I love this one.

It was nice to have everyone together if only for a couple days.

Make Way for Ducklings

Before I moved from my old place, we saw these cute little ducklings with their mama swimming along the creek (that I miss so much).
There is a unique feeling, I think, with witnessing new life.
It’s a warm, hopeful, heart-tugging feeling.
I get it when I see new babies and new animals.

They line up then take off to explore, then line up again behind the mama.

So fun to watch.

Yet another simple moment that should be celebrated in it’s simplicity.

Happy Heart Day!

I know I’ve been off the grid for a bit but I have been doing my best to work my way out of a personal funk.
One of the ways I have been working on it is by organizing the house.

Today, I rearranged our entertainment center mantle for Valentine’s Day.

DSC_0142

This is the way I had it for the past couple weeks.
I got some of those cute dollar mailboxes from Target and decorated one for each of us.

DSC_0144

Today, I rearranged it all and added a whole bunch more.
Each of the girls got some cute socks and a box of Nerds.

DSC_0145

Each girl also got a cute jar full of Sugar Daddies and M&Ms as well as the obligatory box of Sweethearts.

DSC_0152

I got myself this pretty little feather rose.
It’s so darn soft.

DSC_0156

These are the See’s candies that my guy’s mom got for the both of us.
I can’t wait to get into these.

DSC_0150

This is the final product.
The girls were so excited to see the change when they got home from school.
That is what cheers me up when I’m in a funk.
The smiles on my girls’ faces when they are happy or excited or surprised…
That is why I get up in the morning.
That is love.
And that is what Valentine’s Day is about.
It is a day to celebrate love.
Love for your partner, love for your mother, love for your children.view details
Happy Valentine’s Day!

Pre-Christmas Happenings

Holding Onto Gratitude-45

This is my favorite candle.
It doesn’t smell like anything but it’s so pretty and sparkly.

Holding Onto Gratitude-44

And it’s snowball shaped.
It helps make it feel like Winter even when we have a dry season (like this year).

DSC_0047

Lots of tulle.

Well, there were cookies until he ate most of them.

New Jewelry Arrangement

I love my jewelry.
I don’t wear it as often as I like but I do love to look at it.
I had been displaying all of my dangly earrings and necklaces on a corkboard, but I really wanted something a little prettier.

My favorite things 036

So I took some of the foam and packaging rounds from my guy’s work.

DSC_0031

The foam was too big and had to be cut down.
Because of those little indented squares you see there, I had to cut creatively.

DSC_0032

DSC_0034

I traced and cut two half-circles.
I used the hot glue gun to make sure they didn’t move around too much as I was adjusting the fit.
I then covered the foam rounds in fabric and glued it on.
I also glued on some lace.
Because of the foam, I am able to kind of use them the same way I did with the cork board.  I used a strip of lace to hang some of the clasp necklaces from.

DSC_0036

Now, I have my necklaces, earrings and bracelets out in a way that looks really nice to me and it easy to get to when I want to add a little bling for the day.

I love love the way it turned out!!!

Monday Night Football ~Perks~

We have been hosting Monday Night Football at our house weekly.
The guys take turns making a main dish or bringing the drinks.

DSC_0621

Two weeks ago, it was our friend Fish’s turn to make the main dish.

DSC_0616

Apparently he can cook two things: meatloaf and something else.

DSC_0622

What kinds of drinks go with meatloaf you ask?
Whiskey sevens and beer of course.

DSC_0619

This particular meatloaf was a very juicy bacon meatloaf.
That’s man food for sure.

DSC_0618

The girls stay out of the way.
Sometimes I retire to my room and sometimes I sit in the corner watching the guys and quietly working on what I need to do.
I love to watch the boys react to the game.
Way more fun than watching the game.

This time, I was folding laundry in my room and I came out and saw this:

DSC_0623

I had made a map for rearranging the living room and the guys were doing the heavy lifting for me.

DSC_0624

And I heard this:  “That’s not the way it looks in the picture.  We need to leave room for that in the corner.”

DSC_0626

So flipping sweet!

DSC_0632

They left a lot for me to move once they’d gone for the night, but I didn’t have to do any really heavy lifting or wait until my guy had some time.

I will work on a new makeover post as soon as I’m done with the final touches in there.  Almost done.

Until then…
