Adventures in House Sitting ~The Dig Dog and Barney Bear~

Digger (a.k.a. The Dig Dog) is the resident dog.
Barney (a.k.a. Barney Bear) was the visiting dog.

I was a little nervous about bringing Barney out to the farm, but Digger was awesome.
He laid down right away and let Barney check him out and after all the sniffing was done they took off together to run around all over the place.  Digger became my dog-sitter.  It was so funny.

They quickly became the best of buddies.
And they became a little jealous.
We couldn’t pet one without the other coming up looking for love too.

Barney sees Digger walking away and leaves to follow.

Off they go.  Barney makes Digger look like a big dog.

Digger reaches my guy and Barney is right behind him.

Isn’t he handsome?

I have never understood how dogs with the shaggy fur can see through the scruff.
It’s awfully cute though.

And here comes Barney. Digger was not allowed to model for me alone.
“Barney, let me take Dig’s picture. Outta the way dude.”

“Thank you.”

“Barney!  I give up.  Why don’t you make yourself comfortable.”

They’re so cute just soaking up the sun.

“Alright, I’ll take your picture too.”

It was so fun watching them play together.
And be lazy together.

*****

You know how much I love the chickens, right?

Well, I did love the chicken’s eggs.

I even caught Limpy laying one on my last morning there.

That’s not her egg.  She lays nice normal sized eggs and that is a tiny one.

Limpy’s egg is the lighter colored one.  It’s a normal large sized egg.
I don’t know who laid the one on the left.
But it’s really cute isn’t it?

Hugs and stuff,
Kat

Adventures in House Sitting ~Tour of my temporary haven~

I realize that I house-sat a month ago but I wanted to share some more pics from my last trip out there.

One edge of the property lies on a major highway but it never bothered me at all.
It is a beautiful piece of land.

You know how much I love all the animals, but I love the trees and flowers as well.
(No, I don’t talk to the plants.)

The veggies were looking good.

Barney went on a little exploratory hike with me.

I love dragonflies.  My guy spotted this one.  Neither of us had ever seen a red one so I got a close-up shot.

Stacked hay for archery practice.

Did you know that Min-Pins (like Barney) were bred as mousers so he was off hunting while I was exploring the nature around me.

Like these pretty flowers.

I climbed up the hill and found all kinds of beauty.  This is the view from near the top.
Awesome huh?

And these flowers. So sweet.

I think these are particularly intriguing.

They are not really attractive until you get up close.

Check these out.  Look at those tiny purple blooms within the bigger blah flowers.

There were a ton of these in the trees. I love them.

I had so much fun and totally got my exercise going up the hill.
It is always so relaxing when I’m out house-sitting.
So quiet and so beautiful.
Everywhere I turn, there’s another plant, flower, animal, or even bug for me to check out.

Being a city girl, I could never live out there permanently, but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate it when I’m there.

Hugs and stuff,
Kat

Adventures in House Sitting ~Trampoline fun~

**Warning: for mature audiences only.**
I’m about to embarrass myself and if you make fun of me, I’m gonna have to…
Well, I don’t know yet but I’ll think of something.

So we were house-sitting again last weekend.
Miss Rose and I decided to have some fun on the trampoline.

Let me tell you, I am too old for this…
I was pretty sure I was gonna pee my pants.
Miss Rose thought this was hilarious and grabbed the camera.

Note to self: it probably isn’t smart to be jumping around in a dress.
Even a long one.
Even if you’re wearing panties.
Cause it’ll only make you look fat.

I remember this being so much easier.

Oh yeah, check out that landing.
I am so glad the only person who had to see this in person was my daughter.
Though I may have traumatized her for life…

This is the extent of my tricks.
Cross the legs while in air and land in criss-cross applesauce position.

I had fun though.
And got a little work-out.

This is me pouting because Miss Rose is laughing at me after I fell.

“Okay, I give up.  You try it smarty-pants.”

She’s winding up to jump as high as she can without warming up…

I hate to break it to you little girl, but that was kinda lame.

So she goes for a flip.

And lands on her butt.
Ha!  Not so easy huh?

So she says she’s gonna try that again.

But she wants to warm-up a little first.

“Peace yo!”
Or something to that effect.

Okay, she’s trying to figure out the logistics of the flip now…

The necessary diva pose…

Get into position…

Jump…

Flip…

And look at that form! You go girl!
Magnificent.

Victory jump.

And victory pose.
Don’t you think you’re over doing it a little?

“Oh yeah fool, check me out!”
Or something to that effect.

(In sing song voice) “I love you Mommy.”
Really.
Hmph.

You are so lucky I love you child.
Totally showing your mama up like that is not nice.
Not nice at all I tell you.

(Grudgingly) “I love you too Snotface.”

Hugs and stuff,
Kat

Take a Ride With Me

My guy and I were driving back and forth between Portland and Sherwood the weekend we were house-sitting again and I decided to take some shots of the scenery as we passed by.

This is one of the many reasons I love Oregon.

I thought I’d take you on a ride with me:

I think that this is my favorite one.
I can’t get over how perfect the gray looks with the sun just peeking out.

I am amazed at how well these turned out.
The lighting was perfect.

I’m working on some more of our adventures in house-sitting.
Hopefully, I’ll have some up by the end of the week.

Hugs and stuff,

Adventures in House Sitting ~Craft time~

This is the last adventure from last week’s time house sitting.
I don’t know that it actually qualifies as an adventure for anyone except me.

See, without the internet, the only thing I really had to do was watch TV or do some crafting.
I rarely just sit and watch TV, so I combined the two.

There was a local craft store that went out of business recently.
It was sad but they had a great sale the final week.  70% off everything!
So I bought a few craft items and a bunch of beads.
Well, I do love to organize, so I decided to sort out my beads.
(I had purchased a few grab bags and had n idea yet what was in them.)

It wasn’t exactly crafty, but it sure was pretty.
See?:

So pretty.
I have so many ideas for these.
Mostly I want to make a bunch of lanyards for work.
(I have to wear my badge at work and they are so much nicer to wear when hanging from a pretty lanyard.)

Hugs and stuff,
Kat

Adventures in House Sitting ~Where’s Waldo?~

I love all animals.

I love the wild ones and the domestic ones.
I love my dog Barney.
But I have always been, and always will be, a cat person.

When we were house sitting last week, I got to spend some quality time with my new favorite kitten Whiskers.
He is so darn cute and lovable.  He’s an instant purr machine.

He is also definitely a country cat.
I might have snuck him home to live with me, but the fact is, he belongs on a farm.

He is a wonderful hunter.
While I was there, he brought us a mouse and a snake.
And a rabbit.  A rabbit we have named Waldo.

Let me tell you why:

I was on the porch enjoying the quiet.
I happened to look down and saw Whiskers hunched down over something.
I looked closer and realized it was a rabbit.
A rabbit that was still alive!

I called my guy and told him that Whiskers had caught a bunny and it wasn’t dead.
He came rushing out of the house and laughed.
He ran down to get the cat, but Whiskers took off with the rabbit.
Waldo was about half the size of Whiskers, but he trotted away with him hanging from his mouth by his ears.
It was funny to watch, let me tell you.

My guy caught up with them and grabbed Whiskers.
He locked him in the house and grabbed my camera for me.
I was already going after Waldo with my phone.

As I was getting my camera ready, my guy went to go find Waldo.
I spotted him, but my guy couldn’t see him.

He's right there I tell ya!

I see him. Do you?

Waldo has an amazing invisibility power.
I guess that’s called camouflage or something?

Where's Waldo?

We scared Waldo into the brush area but he didn’t go far.
I found him, but couldn’t get a clear shot.
(He’s a good hider too.)

Can you see him? Me either.

We scared him out of the brush and I finally got a good shot of him.
Isn’t he cute?
He was so little, but boy was he fast!

You're good Waldo...

But you're no match for me and my super camera!

We spent about 15 minutes traumatizing looking for Waldo.
Whiskers spent the whole time meowing at the window.
The second we let him out, he went looking for Waldo again.
I’m pretty sure he didn’t find him either.
At least he didn’t bring him home if he did.

I can tell you, I’m looking forward to the next time that we go house sitting.
I can’t wait to see what kind of adventures we have then.

Hugs and stuff,
Kat
